MY BLOG

About this Blog Music was my first love. I like many music genres, but my favourites are clasical and 50's music. The one that eventually took over the others and to whom I dedicated myself, has been and still is cinema. During the past year I found out an other great love: Photography. Finally, there's literature. I never go to sleep before reading some..

    Retro Movies: Breakfast at Tiffany's

    AUTHOR: Jenni CATEGORY: MOVIES

If you seek to be showered with the nostalgic again, nothing beats watching retro movies for that matter. When it comes to that, there's always one movie that comes into mind for all those who have fancied Audrey Hepburn. That would be none other than the all-time favorite "Breakfast at Tiffany's."

Hepburn's notable portrayal of a naive woman named Holly Golightly who happens to be an offbeat cafe society figure is majorly considered as the actress's most identifiable and memorable role. She regarded it to be the most challenging role to have taken in the film industry given that she was an introvert whilst the movie required an extraverted character. Back in 2012, the 1969 movie title was deemed historically, aesthetically, and culturally significant by the US Library of Congress. It was also chosen to be preserved in the thresholds of the National Film Registry.

While the movie begins with our lead star emerging from a Tiffany & Co's store nibbling on pastries, you will truly enjoy the turn of events that will lead her to a scene with a cat and the love of his life. Twists, turns, and an acclaimed actress for a blend that will probably take ages before relived.

  • Retro Signs: Simple yet Timeless

    AUTHOR: JennI CATEGORY: DESIGN

Retro signs have a certain unique and original look that has never been successfully duplicated. They include the Campbell’s soup label, the route 66 road sign and hotel and cola signs. Moreover, their handmade and slightly rough look makes them quite unique and they can almost be conversational pieces. They may be stenciled or handmade but they were not made by machines. These signs cover various products and services including lodging, food and drink, motor oil, beer, automobiles and tobacco.

Where can you find retro signs?

These signs can be found on fruit packing crates. Fruits such as oranges and apples were sent in hand painted and delightfully decorated wooden packing crates. The birds sitting gracefully beside an apple, the beautiful orange blossom set beside the delicious looking orange were lovely images that are very rare nowadays.

Near railroads, the sides of most buildings were painted in an outstanding fresco design with the same motif. On the other hand, gas station logos from the 1950’s are great examples of retro signs which are not only colorful but also simple to read.

Nowadays, most restaurants that sell natural foods use vintage retro signs to show that the food does not contain any additives. This is very effective especially to most modern consumers who want to eat foods that have not been tampered with biologically.

These old retro signs had outstanding simplicity which attracted customers successfully in a low-key but very effective way
